Appalachian Orthodoxy

We are pleased to share with y’all this video from Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, West Virginia. The exquisite production is as a fundraiser for their worthy construction project – to build a new temple and “lay a lasting foundation for Orthodoxy in America” – and tells the fascinating history of this monastery “hidden in the heart of Appalachia.” Holy Cross is not only a brotherhood, a place of worship, prayer, and ascetic labor for monastics, and a site of spiritual rest and rejuvenation for pilgrims, but it also serves as a living and thriving example of the evangelistic aim of the Ludwell Orthodox Fellowship. May God continue to bless Holy Cross’ work in “planting ancient Christianity right in the heart of coal country,” which like so much Southern ground is ripe for Orthodox mission.
