Since we launched in November 2021, the Ludwell Orthodox Fellowship has slowly but surely built interest in fostering indigenous Orthodox Christianity in Dixie’s Land. Therefore, we hosted our Inaugural Conference in September 2023 with the goal of not only growing the Orthodox Church collectively through the deep-seated, little-o orthodoxy already deeply ingrained in Southern soil, but we also hoped to use this event as part of our missions for evangelizing to our Southern brethren individually.

Our 2nd Annual Conference featured two full days of stellar speakers, special events, and increased time for fellowship. It was a smashing success with the help of the good people at St. Andrew the First-Called Orthodox Christian Church and served to really bring together in a warm and loving atmosphere Orthodox from around the Lone Star State and quite a few from beyond, as well as a slew of inquirers and other friendly visitors.

Orthodox scholars, clergy, faithful, and inquirers gathered for the 3rd Annual Conference in celebration of Orthodoxy, Virginia’s foundational role in shaping American and Southern identity, and the enduring legacy of Philip Ludwell III. With the blessing of Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen), the joyous event was hosted by St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church, attracted attendees from all around the South and quite a few from outside of Dixie, and was our biggest gathering yet.
More serious than our Get-Togethers, Conferences focus on theology, ecclesiology, history, culture, current happenings, etc., offer lectures and Q&As by both clergy and laity, and feature participation in liturgical services as a group at a nearby Orthodox parish. The aim of these events is to help seekers learn about and dive deeper into the ancient faith of Orthodoxy, as well as give cradle and convert Orthodox Christians the much-needed opportunity to extend open arms to our wanting neighbors throughout the Southland and for all to fellowship in the process. Come, sit with us for a spell, won’t you?
“Two are better than one;
because they have a good reward for their labour.
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow:
but woe to him that is alone when he falleth;
for he hath not another to help him up.
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat:
but how can one be warm alone?
And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him;
and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
— Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
